C-sections and your skin

Australian skincare brand What Skin Needs wants mums to love their skin. We put so much effort and thought into keeping our children’s skin nurtured and loved, that we forget about our own, especially when it has been put under strain.

Caesarean Sections are traumatic for the skin.

The NHS recently revealed that around a third of births in the UK are caesarean sections. This is an increase around 11% over the last five years and even though they are becoming more common, a lot of mums, or all ages, are unaware what aftercare is needed for their skin.

You need to be delicate with the skin around your stomach after birth. Before heading home, always ask the care team what the best way is to keep the area clean and free of bacteria to help reduce infection. If you think the area has become infected, seek medical attention.

While keeping the area clean is important, keeping the skin soft and moisturised is also important. What Skin Needs’ products will help the skin repair and find its new normal quicker.

Soothing Skin Gel – £9.99 (75ml)

3 GelThis product is one of my favourites as it is really versatile. It helps sooth a range of skin issues but I think most importantly, in this case, it soothes itchy skin. If the skin becomes itchy around the c-section scar area, scratching at it can risk opening up the wound. Applying this gell will help reduce the urge to scratch and pull at the skin.  The product is also suitable for those who are pregnant and breastfeeding meaning it can easily fit into your natural skin care routine and can be used consistently throughout the changing stages of life.

You only need to apply this once or twice a day whereas some products need continual application. You also don’t need to apply a large amount meaning it lasts a long time.

Skin Balm – £9.99 (75ml)

1 Balm.pngIf you’ve had a c-section, then the main selling factor for the skin balm is the way it is designed to revive stressed skin. A c-section put an enormous amount of stress on your skin both during and post-surgery so something to give the skin a break and a helping hand should always be welcomed. This product is also excellent for those who suffer from eczema and psoriasis as it gets deep into the skin to help without causing a burning sensation.

Again, you don’t need a lot of this product, a little really does go a long way and it retails for the same price as the skin gel.
